SAN ANTONIO -

A pair of undercover San Antonio police detectives shot at a burglary late Wednesday morning, wounding him multiple times.

The burglar -- a 17-year-old male -- was taken to a local hospital in serious condition. He's been charged with burglary and aggravated assault on a peace officer.

Two other men -- a 19- and 21-year-old -- were not injured and were taken into custody on burglary charges.

Police officials said the gunfire erupted near the intersection if Ansley Bend and Culebra moments after the officers watched a burglary in progress at a far Northwest Side neighborhood.

The detectives were patrolling a neighborhood that has been burglarized repeatedly recently.

"They came across three individuals who they observed kick a door in and were carrying out a TV," said San Antonio police Chief William McManus.

Two marked police units then tried to pull over the getaway car.

"The suspect vehicle began to ram the unmarked police car and at that point, police officers fired at the driver of that car," McManus said.

The suspect finally pulled over at the 8500 block of Culebra.

The officers, one with 18 years in the force and the other with 14 years, were not injured. Both have been put on administrative duty.
