SAWS says customers don't have enough signatures to challenge rates outside city limits

Response is due by June 17

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Water System has sent a report to the Texas Public Utility Commission saying customers outside the city limits did not submit enough signatures to challenge water and sewer rates.

The rates for SAWS customers were approved in Nov. and went into effect this year.

Under the rates challenge there needed to be 7,600 signatures, but only less than 6,400 were submitted.

“Some of them were duplicates you can only sign once so they're might have been duplicate signatures for an address,” Mary Bailey, vice president of business planning and controller, said. “In some cases the signatures were fir properties inside the city limits and in other cases SAWS was not the water or sewer provider.”

A response is due by June 17.
