"Representing the city of Schertz has been a great personal learning experience for me and I could not have asked for a better group of colleagues to work with. I have grown in many ways during my time as an elected official of the City and I appreciate all the opportunities and services provided for me by city staff," John said

"I am both excited and disappointed in losing such a valuable member of council. Excited because council member John will take a team spirit and unifying force to Guadalupe County and disappointed that to do so he has to leave the council," Mayor Michael Carpenter said.

John submitted his resignation in preparation of his new position as Guadalupe County Tax Assessor, which begins Jan. 1, 2017.

"While I will miss everyone here in Schertz, I feel that it is time for a new challenge and experience,” John said.

Currently, Schertz City Council member Place 3 term will not expire until November 2017, so a special election will be held in conjunction with the general election in November 2016 to fill Place 3.
