LIVE OAK, Texas -

Police say a Schertz councilman was charged with driving while intoxicated.

On Monday at 5 p.m., Live Oak officers responded to a possible intoxicated driver report.

Police said the vehicle matching the description given was found in the parking lot of a business located in the 7900 block of Pat Booker Road.

Officers contacted the operator of the vehicle, identified as 45-year-old George Antuna, and after conducting an initial investigation determined that Antuna had been operating a motor vehicle in a public place while intoxicated.

Police said Antuna was arrested and transported to Northeast Methodist Hospital for medical evaluation.

Once cleared medically from the hospital, police said Antuna was transported to the Live Oak Police Department and later to the San Antonio City Magistrates Office, charged with driving while intoxicated.

On Tuesday, the mayor of Schertz, Michael Carpenter, issued the following statement:

"I have read in the press about the allegations made in regards to Councilman Antuna. I am very saddened by what I have read -- there are no winners in this kind of situation.

The alleged incident did not occur in Schertz, therefore I have no additional facts to add to what has been reported in the press.

Given that the incident occurred outside our jurisdiction, it is a matter for the authorities proper to the jurisdiction in which it occurred to carry forward.

Speculation on my part or on the part of the city would be inappropriate and disrespectful both to Councilman Antuna and to the law enforcement community that is responsible to see that the rule of law is followed from start to finish in this matter.

I put my trust in our neighboring law enforcement community and offer my prayers for all involved."
