Soccer goals stolen Saturday won't stop kids from playing Sunday morning

SAN ANTONIO – A person(s) broke onto the soccer fields Saturday morning and stole the goals kids use to play their games.

The youth sports director for Last Chance Ministries, Mark Hofbauer, said when he got to the team soccer fields Saturday morning the goals were gone.

"They just cut the barbed wire and then just climbed over got the goals and threw them in a truck or whatever and took off," he said.

Hofbauer oversees seven sports at the church for seven different lower-income areas throughout San Antonio.

The crime has left Hofbauer asking plenty of questions.

"What kind of person would rip off a church and a bunch of kids?” he asked. “The little that do have and then to have someone like this come and steal the little bit we have, is just disappointing, especially for these kids."

Luckily, the organization had extra soccer goals in storage and games on Sunday will be able to go on as planned.

Hofbauer said he is working to get additional lighting in the area.
