Some voters living in Comal ISD might have to cast their ballot at two locations during early voting if they want to vote on the latest Comal ISD bond and the races happening in their respective counties.

As it has done in the past, the school district contracted with Comal County to handle its bond election during early voting.

"It just makes good business sense for us to keep it straight with one county that is using one type of machinery and that, on election night, can get the results to us by making one phone call," said Kari Hutchison, Comal ISD Deputy Superintendent.

But Comal ISD voters live in four other counties:  Bexar, Hays, Kendall and Guadalupe.

Residents of those counties must go to polling locations staffed by Comal County elections workers to vote on the Comal ISD bond.

If voters go to polling places staffed by only workers from Bexar, Hays, Kendall and Guadalupe counties, they can only cast a ballot on issues or races in those counties.

That is forcing some voters to visit two polling places.

"In Bexar, Guadalupe, Kendall and Hays, they will need to vote on the rest of their ballot by going to a Bexar, Guadalupe, Kendall and Hays  location," said Comal County Elections Administrator, Julie Kassab.

Comal ISD contracted with only Comal County during its last bond election in 2008.

The same issue arose then, but Monday the district is bigger and more voters are being affected.

There are roughly 14,000 Comal ISD voters in Bexar County now compared to 10,000 in 2008.

"They're frustrated. And we understand that," Kassab said. "We're trying to help them so they're not inconvenienced any more than they have to be."

There is a way to do one stop shopping.

There are polling locations in Bexar, Guadalupe, Hays and Kendall counties that are staffed by workers from those counties as well as elections workers from Comal County.

Voters can cast their ballots at those locations for both the Comal ISD bond and any other races in their county.
