Texas Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson is proposing that the state of Texas take over management of Alamo Plaza.
The area in front of the Alamo mission is currently run by the city of San Antonio. The mission itself is under the control of the General Land Office, which is run by Patterson.
A 21-member committee will be formed March 6 to study Alamo Plaza and what to do with it. Patterson says that while he supports city efforts to update the master plan for Alamo Plaza, he believes getting consensus from 21 committee members will be difficult.
Patterson is facing three other candidates for the Republican nomination for lieutenant governor, including current Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, state Sen. Dan Patrick, and Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples.
Do you think Alamo Plaza should remain under city control, or should the state manage it?
