SAN ANTONIO -

A special delivery sent to the other side of the world earned a group of Girl Scouts a top honor from a team of airmen stationed overseas.

The Girls Scouts of Southwest Texas sent nearly 50 boxes of cookies and other items to airmen deployed to Bagram Air Field in Afghanistan.

Sunday the Girl Scouts were rewarded for their generosity at Lackland Air Force Base.

The girls from Troop 1147 met with some of the airmen and were presented with an American flag that was flown over Afghanistan as a form of appreciation for the care packages.

"It's wonderful. It's so touching for the gift to be returned in kind and it's great for the girls to learn what's going on," said troop leader Christine Wilson. "A lot of time people forget that they have active service folks who are deployed."

Wilson said the care packages were filled with cookies, toiletries and other items to make the airmen feel closer to home.
