North East ISD celebrates National School Lunch Week in its cafeterias during the middle of October.

This year’s National School Lunch Week theme is “Discover the Great Plate of Texas with a Healthy Lunch,” which will run from Oct. 12 through Oct. 16.

Speaker Joe Straus and Dr. Brian G. Gottardy, Superintendent of Schools, will be special guest cafeteria lunch servers. Schools across NEISD will feature foods grown on farms and ranches in the great state of Texas, highlighting a different food group each day.

"National School Lunch Week helps us educate parents and students about all of the benefits of our lunch program, and the appealing choices we offer,” said Sharon Glosson, Executive Director of School Nutrition Services. “Our goal during this week is to showcase how school lunch has changed over the years and to provide a snapshot of our delicious, well-balanced meals.”

NEISD school lunches are healthier than ever; full of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lower in calories, fat, and sodium.

More than 43,000 students are served nutritious lunches each day.
