Speaker series brings awareness to disability rights, acceptance

SAN ANTONIO – On Wednesday, three speakers shared their experiences with disability rights and acceptance in a night of celebrating disabilities and promoting inclusion for all people.

The Department of Human Services and the city of San Antonio teamed up for the Head Start Speaker Series.

The city hosted the free event to help shine a light on what families who have children with disabilities go through and what everyone can learn from their challenges and successes.

"If we would all take a minute, just take a breath, take a pause, and just recognize anyone different than ourselves are important just as we are. If we would accept and accept all, maybe we wouldn't have to have this word — inclusion,” said Rhonda Roach, special projects manager with the city of San Antonio.

Organizers hope the event will bring about excitement and a new level of awareness.
