A man who held San Antonio police at bay for about four hours was found dead inside a northwest side home Monday night.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office identified the man as 32-year-old Christopher Ashford.
Police were called to the home on the 7400 block of Peaceful Meadows around 5 p.m. because of a man behaving erratically.
The suspect, Ashford, was reportedly angry over missing guns. He couldn't find the guns after recently moving into the home with his family.
When police showed up, they said Ashford locked himself in a room and loaded a gun, then fired shots.
Police and Ashford's sister and grandparents all made it out of the home safely.
Police evacuated surrounding homes and blocked off streets while they tried to negotiate with Ashford.
"About 8:45 this evening, we did have our SWAT officers that were able to go inside the house and find the 32-year-old with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He has been pronounced deceased," said SAPD spokesperson Sandy Gutierrez.
Negotiators never established contact with Ashford, leading them to believe he shot himself after the first two officers arrived at the home.
Police do not know if Ashford had a history of mental illness or whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
