State appropriates $8.9 million for Alamo Colleges student veterans programs

Sen. José Menéndez secures funds for veterans training centers

SAN ANTONIO – State Sen. José Menéndez helped secure $8.9 million in state-appropriated funds for veterans support facilities at Alamo Colleges.

The money will be set aside to build or enhance veterans support and training centers at three locations. 

San Antonio College will receive $7.6 million of the funds to construct a new state-of-the-art Veterans Support and Care Center. The center will be equipped with VA services, physical and mental health needs, job training, education benefits and more. It is scheduled to open in fall 2017.

St. Philip's College is set to get $1 million to develop a Good Samaritan Veteran's Outreach and Transition Center to assist service members with housing, health and wellness issues, and other services. It is scheduled for completion in summer 2017.

Lastly, Alamo Colleges Westside Education and Training Center will receive $300,000 for upgrades to accommodate veterans with disabilities.
