A man who threatened to jump off an overpass along Highway 90 surrendered to negotiators late Wednesday night.
SAPD Sgt. Javier Salazar says the incident began when the man was arguing with a woman believed to be his wife.
The argument took place at a gas station on Hunt Lane. When police were called, Salazar said the man walked onto the bridge.
Around 8 p.m., he could be seen straddling the side of the overpass on Hunt. A witness said the man was seen talking on the phone.
East and westbound traffic on Highway 90 came to a halt and traffic was diverted off the highway at the exit for Hunt Lane and Ray Ellison.
The man finally surrendered to negotiators around 11 p.m. Police say he was in good health and will be evaluated. The man was not expected to face charges, police said. Traffic reopened shortly after his surrender.
Other minor accidents happened as a result of the closure and traffic jam.
