Burglary suspect tries to escape on bicycle, then climbs on rooftop

Police arrest man after 2 NW Side business break-ins

SAN ANTONIO – A suspected burglar has been taken into custody in connection with two break-ins at businesses on the Northwest Side.

But San Antonio police said his arrest came after a tenacious attempt to escape.

Officers received a call shortly before 4 a.m. Friday from a passerby who told them someone was inside Rosa Martha's Catering on Vance Jackson near Beryl Drive.

They arrived at the scene and found the suspect pedaling away from the area on a bicycle.

Police said the suspect somehow crashed and fell off the bike, then got up and ran away.

Officers quickly located him on the roof of a home nearby.

They ordered him to come down and placed him in handcuffs.

Police said they discovered that the same man also had broken into Cristi's beauty salon next door. They said when they caught the suspect, he had a hair dryer on him as well as items taken from the catering business.
