SAN ANTONIO -

A Southwest Side resident has been arrested on a murder charge in connection with the August shooting death of a man whose body was found in Atascosa County.

The arrest of Jose Gutierrez, 32, helps to solve cases in two different counties.

On Aug. 30, San Antonio police responded to a mobile home park near Loop 410 and Old Pearsall Road for a report of a shooting.

However, once they arrived at that location, they were unable to find a crime scene. At some point later, deputies with the Atascosa County Sheriff’s Office were alerted to a body in an SUV parked on Kinney Road.

They reported that the person in the vehicle, a man, had been shot to death. An arrest warrant affidavit stated that a witness told police Gutierrez shot and killed Raul Garcia, 31, then drove him to Kinney Road.

The witness said Gutierrez planned to set the body and SUV on fire, but changed his mind due to traffic in the area, the affidavit stated.

Police said Gutierrez left the body at the location where it was later found and returned to his home.

The affidavit stated that the witness was able to get away from him there and alert a security guard who called police.

Gutierrez was booked in the Bexar County Jail on a murder charge. Bond for him is set at $100,000.
