Suspect in South Bexar County murder arrested

James Cardona, a suspect in the fatal shooting of a woman in South Bexar County, has been taken into custody, The Bexar County Sheriff's Office said Saturday. 

Cardona was arrested without incident just after 8 p.m. Friday at his aunt's home in Fentress, Texas by the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force.

Cardona is accused of shooting Tamara Martinez, 31, and her 13-year-old daughter in the 21300 block of South Highway 281 on March 28.

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office has said Martinez was Cardona’s common-law wife.

Cardona has now been taken to Caldwell County jail where he has been charged murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

No bond has been set yet.

Cardona will be extradited back to Bexar County in the near future, the Bexar County Sheriff's Office said.
