Suspect threatens to 'blow man's head off' in dispute about trailer, police say

Jose Tabares, 39, charged with aggravated assault

SAN ANTONIO, TX – Jose Tabares, 39, is facing a charge of aggravated assault after he allegedly threatened another man with a sawed-off shotgun during a dispute about a travel trailer, according to San Antonio police.

Tabares was arrested on Thursday.

In an arrest warrant affidavit, police said the 53-year-old victim told them he had made a deal last September to sell Tabares the trailer for $7,100. The affidavit said that after Tabares paid a $500 down-payment, he moved into the trailer, then neglected to pay any more money.

The trailer owner told police that when he approached Tabares about the money he was met with threats.

He later hired a repo man to recover the vehicle, the affidavit said.

Last Thursday, the victim notified police that Tabares had come onto his property and taken back the trailer. The affidavit said that he saw a man attempting to hitch the trailer to the back of a pickup, so he confronted him.

He told police he quickly realized it was Tabares, and that is when the suspect pointed a sawed-off shotgun at him, threatening to “blow his head off,” the affidavit said.

The man said Tabares ordered him to wait inside another trailer, then handed the weapon to a woman and told her to shoot him if he came back outside.

The affidavit said that the man was able to show police a picture of Tabares. After his arrest, he was booked into the Bexar County jail.
