A San Antonio man has been charged with murder in the death of his friend.

Christopher Garza, 31, was arrested over the weekend in Corpus Christi. He’s accused of killing 30-year-old Miguel Silva.

Nueces County officials have not released the cause of death.

According to family members, Garza and Silva were childhood friends and grew up on the South Side of San Antonio.

“We all grew up together in this little neighborhood,” said Stephen Silva, Miguel Silva’s cousin. “It’s just really hard to comprehend that it was Chris Garza. It hurt us all.”

Around 4:30 a.m. Saturday, Corpus Christi police found Silva unresponsive on the floor of his hotel room. He was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead.

Silva and Garza were two-thirds of the rap group known as the Hooligan Boyz.

They were in Corpus Christi to perform at a local club.

Anthony Benavides, their former manager, said the two were excited about the trip and continuing their rap careers.

“This is a devastating time for everybody including the families,” Benavides said. “Miguel was not just a friend but he was a brother to all of us. He was probably one of the most caring guys I know.” Garza has been charged with murder.
