The man accused of murdering local Tejano singer Mark Ortega is back behind bars.
Stephen Richard Bailey, 28, was re-arrested today after a Bexar County grand jury indicted him Wednesday
Ortega’s widow, Edna, believes her prayers are finally being answered.
“Bailey has been free for more than a year … now my husband will get his rights, get his justice , and we can move forward,” she said.
According to the arrest warrant, Ortega was shot multiple times Sep. 18, 2011. His body was found inside a bathroom of an airplane hangar which is detached from his home.
At the time of his murder, investigators also discovered Bailey's DNA evidence at the scene. But after 90 days, a backlog at the DNA lab led to Bailey going free in 2011.
“We knew what they had, we knew who killed my husband we immediately knew who had done it, it was very frustrating,” Ortega said.
With her husband's most prized possessions prominently displayed in her home, his personal bible and cowboy hats, Ortega is slowly finding peace in her life.
She hopes Bailey will remain in jail.
“I'm happy, I'm very happy that my husband is finally getting justice for his death ,” said Ortega.
She hopes to set up an animal rescue foundation in her husband’s memory. She said that her husband loved very much the 12 dogs they had together.
Stephen Richard Bailey remains at the Bexar County Jail and charged with the murder of Mark Ortega. His bond has been set at $75,000 dollars.
Bailey has been arrested and charged with multiple crimes which include possession of drug paraphernalia, assault bodily injury to a family member, driving while intoxicated, and criminal trespass in Bexar County.
