Texas A&M San Antonio accepts first freshman student

SAN ANTONIO – For the first time in its history, Texas A&M San Antonio has accepted its first freshman student.

The school said Friday that Harlandale High School senior Richard Acosta will be the first of 450 freshmen accepted for the inaugural Fall 2016 semester.

Texas A&M San Antonio has received 3,580 applications for the semester, of which 3,304 are freshmen. The school said 245 acceptance letters were sent to incoming freshmen on Friday.

"The excitement of being accepted to the college of your choice is always an amazing feeling," said Dr. Melissa Mahan, vice president of student affairs. "It's particularly special because it symbolizes progress in education for our university, our community and the future for Richard and so many other students."

The school said it will continue to send out more acceptance letters as admission decision are made.

Jaguar Day, an open house event for prospective students, is scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Feb. 13 in the Central Academic Building's Vista Room. Click here for more information.
