Central Texas authorities save drivers trapped in high-water amid floods

AUSTIN, Texas – Emergency crews in the Austin area responded to numerous high-water rescues amid torrential rain Thursday night and Friday morning.

Buda firefighter Cory Young got call at 1 a.m., seven hours before his shift. “My mind was, ‘Hope I can get to the station without flooding,’” he said.

Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services tweeted Thursday night that it had responded to multiple scenes to assist people trapped by rising water.

Law enforcement assisting in the search believe two people in southeast Austin are still missing.

Four people were rescued in Buda after getting stuck in high water with just moments to spare.

“As soon as we rescued those occupants of that vehicle, the vehicle actually washed down the creek,” Buda Fire Chief Clay Huckaby said.

Huckaby said the first rescue call in the small town in Hays County came in around 9:30 p.m. Thursday.

Across the Lone Star State, people were reported missing as recovery efforts continued.
