3 former Von Ormy city council members due in court Monday

Appearance scheduled for 9 a.m.

SAN ANTONIO – Three former Von Ormy city council members are expected to make a court appearance on Monday for the beginning of their corruption trial.

Carmina Aguilar, Jacqueline Goede, and Verna Hernandez, following a May arrest, have been indicted and are accused of holding a series of illicit meetings.

Back on Oct. 15, 2014 the three woman tried to replace the city marshal and re-impose the city's property tax. The next day, the former Von Ormy mayor, Art Martinez De Vara, filed a restraining order against the women.

The women's relationship with the mayor resulted in the city getting shut down at one point, and getting the boot in a narrowly passed ballot initiative in November.

The Texas Rangers conducted a criminal investigation which resulted in the group's arrest.

Their court appearance is scheduled for 9 a.m.
