SAN ANTONIO -

Three people were hospitalized with gunshot wounds and an alleged shooter was taken into custody after a violent night on the Northeast Side.

San Antonio police responded to a call for shots fired around 11 p.m. Tuesday in the 5700 block of Sun Canyon Drive near Ackerman Road.

SAPD investigators believe the three victims were inside a car that was racing up and down Sun Canyon with someone inside firing shots into the air.

A man inside a home reportedly went outside and fired several rounds at the car, hitting all three people inside, including the driver.

The driver then lost control of the car, drove through a fence and struck a building, police said.

The driver was shot in the neck and face and transported to San Antonio Military Medical Center in critical condition.

A female passenger suffered gunshot wounds to the shoulder and the third passenger suffered a gunshot wound in the forearm. Both were being treated at SAMMC as well.

SAPD investigators said the alleged shooter fled on foot, but was located a short time later by officers.

Police said the shooting was an ongoing investigation and they were attempting to sort out the details. Charges were unknown Wednesday morning.
