Man shot in botched tire rim sale dies, SAPD says

Jamie Garcia, 35, shot at motel on NW Loop 410

SAN ANTONIO – A 35-year-old man, who police said was shot after he tried to rob a man at knifepoint, has died, officials said.

According to a police report, Jamie Garcia met a man around 1:30 p.m. at a motel in the 2400 block of Northwest Loop 410 to negotiate a sale of tire rims that were posted on Facebook.

Within minutes, negotiations turned violent, police said.

The report said the man claimed that he displayed a small handgun, and he and Garcia began to fight over the weapon. During the struggle, the man shot Garcia in the chest, the report said.

Garcia's girlfriend drove him about 5 miles away to a business in the 900 block of South Acme, the report said.

Garcia was transported to University Hospital, where he died, the report said.

People in nearby businesses said they don’t know why the couple stopped at the location, police said.

The man who shot Garcia suffered minor cuts and abrasions to his neck, arms and hands, the report said.

The girlfriend and the man, who hasn't been identified, were taken to police headquarters for questioning.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
