SAN ANTONIO -

A truck driver has been arrested on a charge of theft after the owner of his trucking company accused him of stealing his big rig and ditching it in California.

Giovanni Pinto, 48, was booked into the Bexar County jail Tuesday.

However, an arrest warrant affidavit stated that the crime allegedly happened on April 2.

According to the affidavit, the owner of YMY Express Corporation told sheriff’s investigators that Pinto, whom he hired in February 2013, was supposed to make two deliveries in California.

The man said after Pinto failed to make the second delivery, he made about 45 phone calls and sent text messages in an attempt to reach him.

He said when he finally reached Pinto, the trucker told him he wasn’t going to make the delivery or tell him where his truck was until he was paid, the affidavit stated.

Authorities in California found the trailer section of the big rig in Riverside County about two weeks later, the affidavit stated.

However, the rest of the truck and Pinto were still missing. A warrant was issued for his arrest April 30.

The affidavit does not state whether Pinto ultimately was arrested in California or Texas.
