SAN ANTONIO -

A Northwest San Antonio couple was found shot to death in the bedroom of their home just after 5 a.m. on Monday.

According to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, Fidel and Eva Meza’s son, Bryant, 19, fired the fatal shots, killing his parents.

Bryant was found in a wooded area near Potranco and 1604 Monday evening and taken into custody.

“He had a confrontation with his father and shot his father and then shot his mother," said Sgt. Raymond Pollard. “And it all took place in the bedroom.”

The double murder shocked the family’s neighbors.

“No one expects their next-door neighbors to be murdered,” Erik Robinson said “Especially by their own son.”

Andrew Vaquero said he and Meza had been classmates since elementary school. He said that Meza had changed recently and had been using drugs.

“We would tell him, ‘You’re turning. You’re not the same,'” he said. “We would ask, 'Who are you?’”

Sheriff’s deputies say that there was no evidence of drug use in the home as they searched for a motive for the double murder.

Bryant Meza fled after the shooting.

Several nearby schools were placed on lockdown as a precaution while investigators searched for Meza.
