The Texas Department of Transportation has closed of the busier exit ramps on northbound I-35.

Exit 175, which runs to the intersection of I-35 and FM 3009 in Schertz, will be closed for the next three weeks while work is done to rebuild the exit ramp and finish work on the northbound frontage road.

The entrance ramp from Schertz Parkway will also be closed.

Schertz resident Crystal Cook said the project will frustrate drivers who have already had to deal with congestion in the area. “It’s terrible,” Cook said of the traffic in the area.

“It’s bumper to bumper." “I try to avoid this area as much as possible,” said Cibolo resident Randall Dawson.

An additional lane will be added to the exit to alleviate congestion.

TxDOT hopes to have the ramp reopened by the morning of Feb. 3, but the contractor for the project could be rewarded if work is completed early.

Officials with TxDOT said project supervisors will target the maximum incentives.

Sam Flores commutes through the area frequently. He said he’ll have to add additional time to his drive to compensate for the additional traffic.

“It's already very congested, so for them to close it down it's really going to create a lot of inconvenience,” he said. “They should complete it in a timely fashion. We're already paying enough.”

Dawson said if a little more money means less of a headache for drivers, he’s all for it.

“Cause the least amount of disruption to people's everyday lives for a shorter amount of time for a little bit more money,” he said.
