U.S. Marshals are trying to bring a fugitive who is wanted for sex crimes against children back to Texas to face prosecution.
David Chenu, a professional jazz musician and music instructor, was indicted in 2008 on two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child and four counts of indecency with a minor with multiple alleged victims.
The incidents are believed to have happened in New Braunfels in 2007.
A federal charge of unauthorized flight to avoid prosecution was added to Chenu's list of charges when he allegedly fled the country.
The Lone Star Fugitive Task Force helped track down and arrest Chenu in October 2008 just before he was set to perform a concert at Texas State University in San Marcos.
But he would not stay in custody or in the country for long.
Chenu bonded out of jail and fled to Mexico and then flew to Europe, according U.S. Deputy Marshal Eric De Los Santos.
Chenu surrendered his U.S. passport to authorities before allegedly fleeing.
"You're now having to do the investigative side of tracking the fugitive, but you're having to work with foreign countries and dealing with international laws," said De Los Santos. "So those things are dealt with very delicately."
U.S. Marshals say they have a good idea of exactly where Chenu is in Europe, but are not sharing that information publically in order to protect their search efforts.
If Chenu is caught and extradited back to the U.S., he would likely arrive by plane in Houston and be transported to San Antonio.
From there, he would be transported to Comal County.
"The fact that he has more than one charge for the same offense tells us that he is probably not going to stop," said De Los Santos. "We will work this case until he is caught or we determine he is deceased. These charges will never go away."
U.S. Marshals are working with the U.S. Department of Justice and INTERPOL to find Chenu.
