Rideshare driver caught in crossfire of Northside shooting

Incident reported around 3:30 a.m. Thursday

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police are investigating an early morning shooting on the city's Northwest Side.

The shooting was reported around 3:30 a.m. Thursday in the 1300 block of West Hildebrand Avenue, near Interstate 10.

Police said a rideshare driver had picked up passengers and dropped them off at their intended destination when shooting started. The driver was not involved but apparently got caught in the crossfire, police said.

The driver drove to the downtown HEB location where he called for help. The driver's vehicle was hit once on the roof, police said.

By the time police arrived on scene the suspects involved had already left on foot.

Investigators said they also received a call from a witness near the scene who made his way to a nearby ExxonMobil gas station. Police said that person, like the driver, was shaken by the incident and had a difficult time giving specifics.

The investigation is ongoing.
