SAN ANTONIO -

Wheatley Middle School in east San Antonio was the target of vandals who broke out dozens of windows and trashed at least one classroom early Tuesday morning.

According to an officer with the San Antonio Independent School District’s police department, someone broke into the school, located in the 400 block of Gabriel Street,  after 1 a.m. Tuesday.

The vandals then smashed at least 20 windows on the building’s ground floor and “ransacked” a classroom, he said.

School district police said they recovered some “minor electronics” that had been removed from the building.

However, they said it did not appear as though anything had been stolen, although the case remains under investigation.
