SAN ANTONIO -

A VIA bus crashed into a car and over a curb before slamming into the front of an East Side house Sunday afternoon. The crash happened at the corner of East Houston and North Grimes around 1 p.m.

“A bus was traveling east on East Houston and a car was coming to a stop on Grimes. Witnesses say the car may have not stopped or rolled the stop,” said Officer Fabian Guevara with SAPD. “The bus worked to avoid the car, struck the car, and then struck the house.”

Two young children were inside the home at the time of the crash, but were not hurt.

Fire crews put up temporary support beams to help maintain the structural integrity of the home.

The woman driving the car had minor injuries and EMS transported her to the hospital for concussion-like symptoms.

The VIA driver was not injured and there was no one on the bus when it crashed.

Neighbors say the intersection is notorious for traffic problems.

“I think it’s just because the traffic is so heavy and people at the stop sign are impatient,” said Robert Ellison. “They’re trying to beat oncoming traffic instead of waiting and getting across and sometimes they don’t make it.”

Charges were unknown, but police at the scene said the driver at fault could be ticketed.
