Water well sample tests positive for E. coli bacteria

Water safe to drink, no boil-water notice

SAN ANTONIO – A raw, untreated water sample from a well located near Bear Creek Street indicated the presence of E. coli bacteria, San Antonio Water System officials said.

The well on the city's far West Side was immediately removed from service, a SAWS news release said.

Raw, or untreated water, is water from a well before disinfection and before entering the distribution system, SAWS said. All raw or untreated water is disinfected before entering the distribution system as finished water for customers.

SAWS has collected about 205 finished water samples this month. None of the samples indicated the presence of E. coli, SAWS said.

"Finding this result and responding to it is the routine process of ensuring safe drinking water," SAWS Chief Operating Officer Steve Clouse said.

No boil-water notice will be issued, SAWS said.
