Winter weather created dangerous conditions for drivers on the far North Side of San Antonio.

There were more than a dozen wrecks on Loop 1604 alone, mainly on overpasses and bridges.

"I thought it was raining, because I heard ... popping on my roof, and I looked outside, and I looked up, and there was just hail falling on my face. At first I thought it was snow," said Ethan Ponce.

It started falling after 3 a.m. on the Northwest Side, then moved its way northeast.

Accidents started popping up, causing drivers to slow down.

"I saw ice there, but we were already driving slow at that time," said Danielle Santos.

Since the weather didn't hit the entire area, it did catch some drivers by surprise.

"At first I started seeing all these cars that had all of the ice on them and the snow, and I was kind of surprised, because I was like, 'We're not in Colorado,'" said Louisa Vaghan, who drove in to San Antonio from La Vernia.
