SAN ANTONIO -

A 34-year-old woman was arrested in connection with a disturbing assault against her son at Joint Base-Fort Sam Houston.

According to the San Antonio-Express News, the FBI charged Jennifer Marie Vargas with assault within maritime and territorial jurisdiction resulting in the serious bodily injury after she was accused of nearly pulling off her 6-year-old son's genitals and then using superglue to try to repair them.

The article cited a criminal complaint affidavit that stated the injury occurred on Sept. 27.

The child's father, who is in the Army, found his son crying and noticed the injury when he came home that day.

The affidavit stated Vargas admitted to authorities she was angry with the boy when the alleged incident occurred.

The article stated the boy was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center and is recovering from surgery. He remains in his father's custody. Vargas faces up to 10 years in prison.
