Woman accused of beating store manager in head with gun

Crime Stoppers tip led to arrest of Nicole Ovalle, 27

SAN ANTONIO – Nicole Ovalle, 27, is accused of attacking a store manager who tried to stop her from shoplifting.

San Antonio police said a Crime Stoppers tip led to Ovalle's arrest on Tuesday, some nine months after she allegedly hit the store manager in the head with a gun.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, the manager reported the attack in January, saying that she had confronted a woman who was shoplifting in her store and made her pay for the items before leaving.

The affidavit said that the victim told officers the shoplifting suspect returned about 30 minutes later and hit her in the head several times with a hard object, later determined to be a gun.

The incident was captured on surveillance cameras. However, police were not able to identify the attacker until they received a Crime Stoppers tip in October, the affidavit said.

Police said they later showed Ovalle's picture to the victim in a photo lineup and she identified her as the attacker.

Ovalle was arrested on a charge of aggravated assault.
