Sgt. James Lint said, prior to the 5 a.m. crash, officers had been called to a disturbance somewhere along Babcock Road, and that it involved people in the same red Cadillac that hit Acosta.

After getting the later call for the pedestrian accident, officers found her lying on the westbound access road between Fredericksburg and Babcock roads.

"It was determined later on, during the course of the investigation, that the pedestrian was also, earlier, a passenger of that vehicle, " Lint said.

Investigators learned that Acosta had gotten out of the car on the eastbound access road of Loop 410, then crossed the highway to the other side.

"And while she was going across the access road here, the same vehicle struck her," Lint said.

The driver was identified as 24-year-old David Antonio Alvarez. He told police he had lost sight of the woman after she exited his car.

He said he took the highway turn-around, then hit her as he was driving on the west access road. Acosta was rushed to University Hospital where she died.

Alvarez (pictured below) was taken into custody at the scene and later arrested on a charge of intoxication manslaughter with bond set at $75,000.
