Woman killed by her own car in San Antonio

Woman found underneath PT Cruiser

SAN ANTONIO – A woman in her 50s was hit and killed by her own car in front of Churchill High School on Thursday.

Police said the woman was found underneath a PT Cruiser, which is registered under her name, in the 11000 block of Blanco Road at 6 a.m.

Witnesses told police the car made a sudden U-turn in the middle of the road.

"For whatever reason, it looks like she got out of the car and, at some point, was run over by ... her own car," said Sgt. Javier Salazar, a San Antonio Police Department spokesman. "It's unknown if she left it in drive. We're also looking into the possibility that there may have been a second person in the car at the time."

Traffic investigators were also working with homicide detectives to look at all possible scenarios.

"There's no hard evidence, there's no witnesses indicating that someone else left the scene, but that's what we're trying to determine at this point, if she was the driver or if she was the passenger," Salazar said.

Fran McLaughlin said she was was flagged down on her way to work. She called for help, but it was too late for the woman.

"The door was open, the car was still running. I could hear a cell phone ringing some place in the car, but I didn't want to touch the car or anything," McLaughlin said.

The woman's name has not been released.
