SAN ANTONIO -

A motorcyclist apparently showing off was responsible for a crash that claimed the life of a woman late Wednesday night, San Antonio police said.

SAPD investigators said the motorcyclist was offering rides to patrons at a bar on the Southeast Side.

He left the bar around 11 p.m. with a female passenger and when he didn't return, other bar patrons went looking for the pair.

They found the accident scene near E. Southcross Boulevard and Bill Miller Lane and called police.

San Antonio police believe the motorcyclist lost control of the bike when he attempted to pass a car and slammed into a utility pole.

The female passenger died at the scene, police said. Her name had not been released as of 6 a.m. Thursday.

The motorcyclist was transported to San Antonio Military Medical Center in critical condition.

Police believe alcohol played a factor in the crash and expect the motorcyclist to face charges.
