Woman remembers son, husband killed in crash with 18-wheeler

Vigil held for crash victims

SAN ANTONIO – Delilah Chavarria replays last Friday's crash over and over. She, her husband and three children were in their Ford pickup when they crashed into an 18-wheeler and rolled into a ditch on FM 1937.

"I can't get it out of my mind, but I have to try for my kids," Chavarria said.

Christoper Colunga, 12, and his father, 30-year old Victoriano Chavarria Jr., died in the crash.

Delilah, her 11-year-old son, Felix, and her 18-month-old infant were injured, but survived.

“I don't remember anything. I was looking down, and all I remember is when I looked up, I just saw the 18-wheeler coming," Chavarria said.

Their injuries are still fresh, but together the family joined dozens of people on the South Side for a vigil.

"I really didn't want to get off the car. I'm just kind of keeping down. I'm still not ready for the world," Chavarria said.

Christopher and Victoriano will be laid to rest Thursday. The family will hold a BBQ plate sale Saturday at noon to raise money for funeral expenses at The Woods Den on 2117 South Flores Street.
