SAN ANTONIO -

The San Antonio woman who was hit and killed by her own car in front of Churchill High School on Thursday has been identified.

A San Antonio police spokesman said Isabel Huerta, 68, was found underneath her beige 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser in the 12000 block of Blanco Road at 6 a.m.

Witnesses told police the car made a sudden U-turn in the middle of the road.

"For whatever reason, it looks like she got out of the car and, at some point, was run over by ... her own car," said the SAPD spokesman.

The spokesman said as Huerta (pictured below) stepped out of the vehicle, which was still in gear, it began to travel backwards, striking her down and running her over.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Earlier on Thursday, traffic investigators were also working with homicide detectives to look at all possible scenarios.

"There's no hard evidence, there's no witnesses indicating that someone else left the scene, but that's what we're trying to determine at this point, if she was the driver or if she was the passenger," Salazar said.

The spokesman said Thursday afternoon that the case is still under investigation.

Witness Fran McLaughlin said she was was flagged down on her way to work. She called for help, but it was too late for the woman.

"The door was open, the car was still running. I could hear a cell phone ringing some place in the car, but I didn't want to touch the car or anything," McLaughlin said.
