NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas -

New Braunfels police say a woman was struck and killed Friday afternoon while she was attempting to cross Interstate 35 on foot.

The accident occurred just after 3 p.m. on I-35 near the Walnut exit in New Braunfels and involved a 2000 Toyota Avalon.

The 45-year-old woman was taken by medical helicopter to University Hospital with serious injuries, where she later died.

Her name has not been released, pending notification of her family.

No charges were expected to be filed against the driver who hit the woman.

The northbound lanes of the highway were closed temporarily while accident investigators worked to clear the scene.
