World-renowned medical examiner to speak in SA

Dr. Vincent Di Maio involved in Lee Harvey Oswald, Trayvon Martin cases

SAN ANTONIO – Dr. Vincent Di Maio, a famous criminal pathologist and renowned expert on gunshot wounds, will speak Wednesday in San Antonio.

Di Maio will appear at 6:30 p.m. at the Fort Hills Branch Library at 5245 Ingram Road.

His one-hour speech will focus on his book, "Morgue: A Life in Death," as well as some of the mysterious cases over his 40-year career.

Some of the cases include the exhumation of Lee Harvey Oswald, and the fatal shooting of Florida teen Trayvon Martin.

Di Maio has given expert testimony in many high-profile criminal trials, including the murder trial of George Zimmerman in 2013 and the trials of police officers in the Freddie Gray death in 2015.

Originally from San Antonio, Di Maio served as Bexar County Chief Medical Examiner until he retired in 2006. He has written several articles in recent years about forensic science.

Di Maio was appointed by Gov. Rick Perry in 2011 to the Texas Forensic Science Commission, a state agency that investigates alleged malpractice in forensic labs.​
