April began her reporting career in Waco, where she anchored and reported for the ABC television affiliate. While working in Waco, she covered the 4-year anniversary of the Branch Davidian fire and even appeared on CNN, showcasing her live reporting talents for a national audience. She also distinctly remembers covering the tornado in the town of Jarrell, which devastated so many lives.

In 1998, April moved to Austin, where she was the anchor for the 5 p.m. news and a consumer investigative reporter. She says she loves doing investigative work and following consumer complaints. "I enjoy helping people, and sometimes I even feel like a social worker…and that’s just fine with me," April said.

Among her most exciting interview opportunities, April fondly remembers sitting down with George Bush Sr. in his library for a most interesting interview. And she still relishes the time she sat with Willie Nelson in his trailer in Luchenbach for a rare sit-down with the music legend.

April spent 10 years of her childhood growing up in San Antonio and even interned at KSAT 12 while she was in college, so being a part of the team feels a lot like coming home. April is married, with twin girls and her interests include traveling, swimming, reading and taking her daughters to the park.
