'Ugly Betty' Campaigns For Hillary Clinton

America Ferrera Tours Texas For Presidential Hopeful

"Ugly Betty" was on the campaign trail for presidential hopeful Sen. Hillary Clinton Sunday morning in San Antonio.

Actress America Ferrera was swinging through Texas when she stopped in the Alamo City to throw support behind her campaign.

Attendees said Ferrera spoke softly, but said her words definitely resonated with the people in the room.

"I am so ready to see Hillary Clinton be in the White House," said Ferrera, actor from the show "Ugly Betty." "After Jan. 20, 2009, it's the president and a stack of problems, and you want to make sure you hire the best person for the job."

Growing up in a low-income household, Ferrera said she likes Clinton's stance on health care and education, but also sees her as a role model for young women.

"I am so excited for the day where I can tell every young Latino girl -- look into her eyes and say there is no limit to what you can do as a woman," said Ferrera.

According to recent polls, the Clinton campaign still has a leg up on Sen. Barack Obama in Texas. With voices like Ferrera's speaking out in support, the campaign said it hopes to attract and mobilize women and Latino voters. Other lawmakers said her support could do wonders.

"We always talk about the person on TV doesn't look like us, doesn't sound like us, doesn't have the experience we've had, but America has," said Delicia Herrera, San Antonio city councilman. "And she's sending that message loudly as she campaigns for Hillary."

Clinton supporters said a celebrity woman is bringing important visibility to her campaign.

"It's just a good sign for women in general that women are backing other women and believe the vote is necessary and important," said Katrina De Los Santos, a Clinton supporter.

Ferrera's stop is a part of a fast tour of Texas. She went to Austin after he stop and then was headed to Houston.
