Christmas at the Caverns kicks off at Natural Bridge Caverns

SAN ANTONIO – It's a holiday attraction unlike anything else in the world!

Christmas at the Caverns kicks off this weekend at Natural Bridge Caverns.

It features family friendly activities both above ground and below.

"We have caroling down inside the caverns, and then on the grounds outside the caverns we have a variety of things to do too," said Matt Carr, operations manager at Natural Bridge Caverns.

Carr said there is a hay ride that will take you along the surrounding ranch, campfires, and thousands of twinkling lights.

To kick off the event this weekend, Natural Bridge Caverns is hosting a Watchtower Challenge in partnership with the San Antonio Food Bank.

"The Watchtower is a huge iconic cave formation down inside the cave, and we figure it will take about 120,000 pounds of food items to symbolically fill up the Watchtower," said Carr. "So we're challenging local youth organizations to bring in as many canned goods as they can between (noon) and 1  p.m. this Saturday. We'll weigh those things and the group that brings in the most will all get an all-access park pass."

All food will then be donated to the San Antonio Food Bank.

Anyone can bring canned goods to participate and receive a $2 voucher to use at the food and beverage or retail counters.

Christmas at the Caverns is happening at Natural Bridge Caverns Dec. 10-11 and Dec. 17-23. For more information, visit www.NaturalBridgeCaverns.com.
