Drug-free options to battle ADHD

SAN ANTONIO – If you have a child struggling with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, you’re not alone.

Just recently, U.S. Olympian Simone Biles revealed she, too, struggles with ADHD.

"A lot of athletes use their training to be able to gain control of their bodies," Rafael Scarnati, executive director at Learning Foundations, said.

Scarnati said he wants parents to know there are alternative ADHD treatment options available in San Antonio.

“There are customizable treatments other than medication,” he said. “There are a lot of drug-free ways to gain control of your attention.”

Scarnati said ADHD has to do with a person’s ability to control and regulate their attention or focus and their body control. He stressed the importance of understanding what this diagnosis means.

“(ADHD) is not just a list of behaviors," he said. "There are a lot of behaviors that can be caused by things that are not ADHD."

Learning Foundations staff will work on “finding the right option for your child.”

Parents can attend free seminars every Monday at 6:30 p.m. at Learning Foundations, located at 2817 Thousand Oaks near Jones Maltsberger.
