What Texas military members need to know about home loans

SAN ANTONIO – Military veterans who have served two years or more may qualify for a home loan and not even know it.

The Texas Vet & VA Home Loan program offers a home loan of zero down payment up to $417,000.

“That gets you a beautiful house here in San Antonio,” Pat Fitzgerald, a loan officer, said.

Also, with a VA loan, there’s no private mortgage insurance.

“So it’s just purely the principal, the interest, the taxes and the insurance,” Fitzgerald said.

He said eligibility can be used more than once if the home is sold or if the VA loan is paid off.

If your credit score concerns you, Fitzgerald said it’s not a problem.

“It doesn’t have to be perfect,” he said.

“And thank you for serving our country,” Fitzgerald said. “It means the world to me.”
