Texas House, Senate resolutions made to commemorate SA 300 celebration

AUSTIN, Texas – It was a big day for the San Antonio's Tricentennial Committee as resolutions were announced to commemorate the city's upcoming 300th birthday celebration.

"It's a celebratory commemoration that this is happening, and (we're) telling everyone, particularly here in Texas, that San Antonio is celebrating a milestone of 300 years," said Edward Benavides, Tricentennial Committee CEO.

Both Texas Rep. Diego Bernal, D-San Antonio, and Texas Sen. Carlos Uresti, D-San Antonio, talked to their respective floors about the importance of SA 300 and how much it means not only to San Antonio, but to the state.

"Today is about our city, our people, and that was really exciting for us," Bernal said.

Throughout 2018, the city will host dozens of events throughout the year celebrating the impact San Antonio has had on history and culture -- events which are expected to provide a huge economic impact.

"We anticipate over 260,000 new visitors just because of the anniversary year, and we also anticipate $120 million in economic impact," Benavides said.

The House and Senate resolutions are also a way of getting everyone in the state involved, and putting San Antonio front and center for all to enjoy.

SA 300 kicks off on New Year's Eve.
