San Antonio sisters make appearance on Steve Harvey Show
Alyssa Esparza, 8, and Makayla Esparza, 9 began the fitness club
Two San Antonio sisters who took to Craigslist to find workout buddies are gaining national attention for their efforts to get healthy.
Alyssa, 8, and Makayla Esparza, 9, began the fitness club in January with the help of their family, and were recently invited to appear on the “Steve Harvey Show” to talk about the program.
“If I can just help one person that's overweight, and they can keep on doing this, that would be super great," said Makayla during an initial interview with KSAT 12 back in January.
Since that time, the group “Fitness FUNatics has grown dramatically to include some 50-plus members.
“It's available to anybody,” said Alyssa. “You can be any kind of age. Just come on and join.”
While appearing on the Steve Harvey Show, the sisters had the opportunity to meet their idol, Jillian Michaels of "the Biggest Loser" who is a fitness trainer and author. The sisters said the show was the inspiration for their club.
For their efforts in helping the community get healthy, the girls also received Mayor Julian Castro’s Healthy Hero award earlier this year.
