Houston Texans Cut Ties With Three Veterans
POSTED: Wednesday, February 28, 2007
Houston, TX -- (Sports Network) - The Houston Texans have released wide receiver Eric Moulds, defensive tackle Seth Payne and offensive lineman Zach Wiegert.
Moulds leaves after just one season with the organization. The 11-year pro was acquired during the 2006 offseason from the Buffalo Bills. Moulds had 57 catches for 557 yards and one touchdown last season.
Payne was taken by Houston in the 2002 Expansion Draft. The Cornell product, who was the last remaining player from that draft, played in just five games last season after tearing a ligament in his right knee.
Wiegert, who signed with Houston in 2003, also missed time because of a torn knee ligament. The former Nebraska Cornhusker star, started nine games in 2006 before the injury.
"We made some difficult decisions today in releasing these three veteran players," said Texans General Manager Rick Smith. "We appreciate the contributions that each made to our football team, organization and community."
NFL teams are allowed to sign unrestricted free agents beginning Saturday, March 3.
